What I'm listening to 10/09/2023: Indie Girl Grind

I am on the indie girl grind right now. When am I not!!! :-))))

CHAI - WINK. Fun album with a happy 80s throwback sound. I listened to their album PINK as well and think I prefer it. That one made me dance around the house. Hanging laundry is always a time when I dance. Nice domestic duty. Found them through a song on Gorillaz's Song Machine. The main vocalist's style reminds me a bit of Yeaji sometimes with the whispery mulled singing. I like their gothy hair on their Spotify picSays in their Spotify description that they're going for a CSS sound and I hear that, especially on PINK, which sounds slightly edgier.

It's Vitamin C

Javiera Mena - Esquemas Juveniles. Wow what a good album!!!! I wish I understood the lyrics to this one. Great from start to finish. It's funny with really synthy albums, they can be very minimal but still so interesting in the sound if you just get really good beats or ethereal odd sounds, like Arthur Russel (who does both I feel). Really dance-inducing beginning but just as good when it becomes more calm.
Deux - Decadence. Wtf, there's no album more french than this  :() I feel bathed in cheap white wine. This album feels like a scene you step into, like a ride in a city at night. It's a bit Kraftwerky. As German as Kraftwerk feels, this is how French Deux feels. Sadly 1 of 2 died so we are most likely left with this album only, RIP. He's very much got a Lou Reed sound. Sometimes it feels like every male artist sounds like Lou Reed.
Game and Performance

Cibo Matto - Viva! la Woman and Stereotype A. To stick to the indie pop girl theme I relistened to some Cibo Matto albums, they are    so   good. 😐 Wowza. Also Gorillaz related. I'm thinking of doing a project of listening to a bit of every artist who has featured on a Gorillaz track and reviewing them. I LOVE CIBO MATTO, crazy food for the ear!!!! They will likely be the next patch I make when I've finished my Tiger Trap one. They're also one of those bands that are just fantastic at creating a certain feeling for their albums. It just feels like going into a certain world when you put one of them on.

Tim Hecker - Harmony In Ultraviolet and Virgins. I listened to them whilst reading Tomie. They fit very well but were hard to pay attention to whilst reading, especially as they are ambient. But sometimes the music picked up my consciousness and I was transported to another world and cried a bit, so they are probably very good.

Update section: I still think Jewellery by Micachu & the Shapes is incredible, it's a 5/5 record for me. Cansei de ser Sexy is also still great. Maybe not 5/5 for me right now, but awesome songs. Great rollerskating music.  The music video for Alala is very good, I want an 80s prom dress.

PS: I found a cute pixelated version of viva la woman
